    Die im Jahr 2012 erschienene 1. Auflage des Buchs war bereits nach knapp 2 Jahren vergriffen, so dass bereits 2014 eine überarbeitete und erweiterete 2. Auflage folgte. Diese wurde 2017 nochmals überarbeitet und durch ein Kapitel zu topologischen Quantenmaterialien ergänzt.

    Das moderne Lehrbuch gibt eine ausgewogene Einführung in das wohl breiteste Gebiet der Physik und dient als Basis für weiterführende Vorlesungen zu verschiedenen Spezialthemen (z.B. Supraleitung, Magnetismus, Halbleiterphysik). In großer Detailliertheit und unter Berücksichtigung jüngster Forschungsergebnisse werden aktuelle Entwicklungen, z.B. auf dem Gebiet der Nanosysteme, Magnetismus oder Supraleitung beschrieben.
